Introduction

The "Introduction to ASP.NET 4.0" seminar is organized by the specialist high-tech company Digital Academy created by the Multimedia Technology Laboratory's Lecture Group. It is an intensive seminar that takes place exclusively with the Distance Learning method, allowing the learner to follow the program from the place and time of his choice, via the Internet.

The program is designed in such a way as to introduce the learner to the special features of the ASP.NET framework for the development of Web applications in .NET. Through a series of 10 training modules completed over a period of 4 weeks and corresponding to 140-160 hours of lessons, the trainees will familiarize themselves with the terminology of Web programming in general and acquire the necessary resources to develop or participate in small web applications or mid-range in the .NET framework. The learner will gain an in-depth understanding of the most popular web framework for .NET through a series of presentations and examples whose code is written in both C# and Visual Basic, thus enabling the learner to choose their preferred language .

1. Introduction, Web architecture, HTML, CSS, Visual Studio.
2. ASP.NET basics, basic programming concepts in C# and Visual Basic, data types, operators, variables, program flow control, objects and classes.
3. Development of websites with ASP.NET, the basic controls and validation controls.
4. Presentation of an ASP.NET web application with Master Pages, Skins, Themes.
5. Basic database concepts, SQL language basics.
6. DataView, DataList, GridView, DetailsView.
7. ADO.NET Entity Framework and LINQ.
8. Security, Authentication and Personalization.
9. Client side programming with Ajax and JQuery.server.
10. Debugging and installing web applications on the web.

Methodology

According to our educational program, the material is divided into 10 educational units and the program is completed with a final exam covering all the material. The program uses the latest version of the free software (open source) Moodle, which is based on the PHP programming platform. The online courses are hosted on proprietary servers incorporating cutting-edge technologies such as: Processor 2 x Intel Pentium XEON hyperthreading, Memory 32GB DDR RAM, Hard Disks IBM SCSI U320 HDDs@ 15000 rpm Raptors Hardware RAID 5. The central interface with the internet is carried out through the ESET ( National Research and Technology Network) and is of the order of 1 Gbps (EDET has 2 x 622 Mbps internet connection – Pan-European Research Internet GEANT).

After the seminar

After the seminar, the trainee will have acquired the necessary knowledge and skills so that:

• Be familiar with the fundamentals of web application development.
• Be familiar with the main technologies for web application development.
• Be able to read ASP.NET code and understand its functionality.
• To implement simple dynamic websites, but also integrated web applications in ASP.NET.
• To design basic databases and use them through an ASP.NET application

Critical thinking, design initiative and the ability to implement applications in ASP.NET will be developed thanks to the ready-made programs provided by the instructors as well as the weekly assignments.

Purpose of the seminar

The purpose of the seminar is to learn the capabilities of ASP.NET within 10 training modules, so that the learner is able to start or participate in the development of Web applications. The organization of the teaching has been done with the consideration that the trainees have no contact with ASP.NET but have basic computer knowledge, and rudimentary programming knowledge. Also, in order for the trainees to be able to attend the seminar they should have a computer with a Windows operating system so that they can install Visual Web Developer 2010 Express (available for free), which is the basic tool for developing such applications and on which the seminar is supported. Finally, they should also have knowledge of the English language as the seminar is based on material written in English, supported of course by notes in Greek. The training is designed for immediate learning of the ASP.NET language and its main features. The course focuses on getting familiar with the language through practical application with a series of examples and tasks to implement, so that the learner becomes fluent in both writing programs and reading.
